WHO IS FBALA?

FBA Lash Academy made its mark in the Eyelash Extension Education industry in early 2020, starting as a small solo-run home business located in North Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, from 2018. Owner and Founder, Alyssa Ruiz, had been lashing privately for two and a half years before being inundated with clients who had undergone 1-3 day lash courses to become lash artists themselves, only to hear the horror stories of how her clients turned friends were grossly uneducated, scared and unable to start their careers. As time went on, Alyssa began to notice a trend within the lash industry, quick and easy money making courses were becoming popular with large groups of individuals being educated at once, while the old 1:1 style training disappeared. This was and still is effecting the future generations of lash artists and their clients today.

Alyssa, being self taught, spent 7-12 months educating herself in theory before purchasing a pair of tweezers. She started her journey and career as a Lash Tech while she was working casually as a self taught makeup artist. While also working as a full time receptionist, lashing quickly became her passion as she found she had a talent and care within lashing itself. Eventually this steered her to quit her full time job after 7 years to run FBA Lash Academy. Alyssa then completely ceased her career in makeup artistry and beautician services to solely focus on providing and suppling professional lash products and education/training. The transition into the lash industry was not easy for Alyssa, as self taught artists were and still are frowned upon within most countries. Alyssa fought backlash from many international artists where their governments did not legally allow self taught artists to trade without a certificate or licence, having her social media accounts belittled, shut down, hacked and even having unkind words sent through direct messages and physically via mail. Alyssa uses her previous knowledge and experience to inform people on the importance of proper education within this industry.

Alyssa was lucky that her talent could shine through a country where the lash industry is not regulated and found many other self taught lash artists within Australia and many trained artists that supported her journey along the way internationally. Once Alyssa's popularity grew within her community and she started to own her work with pride, the backlash eased and eventually stopped as her work spoke for itself. Alyssa has became one of the very few artists within Australia to successfully provide Bottom Eyelash Extensions correctly, better yet, the only educator in Australia to teach this method.

Alyssa now creates industry first programs for international artists and educators of all skill levels and stands firm on her "No bullsh*t" approach to the lash industry. Spilling industry secrets, debunking marketing myths and re-training students around the world who have received poor education, all while welcoming the newest generation of lash artists the correct way. Alyssa has created many industry first programs, such as the return and redeem program which uses a recycling approach to the eco friendly lash products she provides internationally - which ultimately buys back old lash containers and product packaging to lower the waste percentage in the lash industry.

Alyssa has also created the FBALA Free Re-Education program, which was created to provide $20,000-$30,000 AUD each year of FREE re-education for students worldwide who have had a negative training experience or have had minimal to no mentoring after they had finished their courses. This program is open to 12 students per year and is selected by a prior knowledge questionnaire. Alyssa has also created the FBALA HoH Touch System. An extremely popular industry first, educating lash artists around the world to communicate with deaf and hard of hearing clients by facial and shoulder touch alone. Creating a program for both deaf, hard of hearing clients and the lash artist to learn. This program was created and offered to lash artists for FREE to ease the very substantial un-intentional discrimination deaf clients face within the lash industry.
